Disney Branded Television has a new executive in charge of physical production.
The company has hired Atiya Henry as executive vp production for the kids and family-focused unit, which is behind shows and films including the Descendants franchise and Phineas and Ferb. She’ll report to Carol Turner, head of production for Disney Entertainment Television, and become part of Disney Branded TV chief Ayo Davis’ executive team.
“Atiya is a highly accomplished production executive who knows how to bring ambitious storytelling to life,” Davis and Turner said in a statement. “Her experience across a wide range of genres and her collaborative leadership style make her an ideal partner to our production and creative teams and partners as we continue to build the industry’s most ambitious slate for kids and families.”
Henry comes to Disney from Netflix, where she spent seven years in physical production on series ranging from Firefly Lane to the streamer’s upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot. In her new role, she’ll head all aspects of physical production for Disney Branded TV’s live-action and animated programming for Disney+, Disney Channel and Disney Jr., work with creative and business teams through the development and filming process and support production in new formats.
“Disney has played an important role in shaping many of the most iconic stories for kids and families around the world, and it’s truly an honor to join a team that is defining the space for future generations,” said Henry. “I’m excited to partner with Ayo, Carol, and the talented Disney Branded Television team to help deliver stories that audiences will grow up with and carry with them for years to come.”
Prior to her time at Netflix, Henry spent time at Annapurna Pictures and BET Networks. She began her career in the nonprofit sector.
