Hulu is developing a comedy series about a washed-up reality star with Chelsea Handler attached to star.
The streamer is developing Townhouse, which comes from fledgling writer Zoe Young and 20th Television with Handler also exec producing.
Handler is set to play the reality star and the series also follows her live-in entourage of misfits as they scramble to rehab her image and reboot her career. When her estranged daughter unexpectedly moves into their crumbling Manhattan townhouse, the TV has-been is confronted with the one role she’s spent her entire life avoiding: motherhood.
Young is fresh from the 2025 class of USC’s Writing for Screen & Television MFA program.
Handler has some experience in the world of reality television. She exec produced E! series Pretty Wild, which starred Alexis Neiers, who was arrested after the pilot for being part of the Bling Ring, a group that robbed celebrities including Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan and Rachel Bilson, and her sisters in Hollywood. The talk show host also starred in Oxygen prank series Girls Behaving Badly and hosted one episode of the Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett-produced filmmaking competition series On The Lot.
Hulu’s comedy slate includes Only Murders In The Building, which has been renewed for a sixth season, Deli Boys and Glen Powell-fronted Chad Powers, which have both been renewed for second seasons and a miniseries reboot of Malcolm in the Middle as well as Connie Britton-led Phony and Mindy Kaling’s Not Suitable For Work.
Young is repped by WME and Yorn Levine and Handler is repped by Ocean Avenue, WME, Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
