Colman Domingo Hopes That Paris Jackson Eventually Loves ‘Michael’

Colman Domingo addressed concerns about the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael after Paris Jackson spoke out against the project last year.

The Euphoria actor, who plays Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson, told WSJ Magazine in an interview published on Tuesday that he hopes Paris “eventually loves the tribute that we made about her father.”

Paris critiqued Domingo and the Antoine Fuqua-directed film in September 2025 after Domingo told People that Paris and her brother, Prince Jackson, were “very much in support” of Michael.

“[Colman Domingo], don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had zero percent involvement in lol that is so weird,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest/didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed.”

Domingo told WSJ that his comments to People were “conflated” and “taken out of context,” adding that the article was updated to “more fully capture” what he said. The actor also revealed that he sent a direct message to Paris on Instagram and “she put a heart on it” in response.

Elsewhere in the interview, Domingo reflected on playing Joe, who Michael has said abused him as a child.

“For me, it was about finding his humanity. He created some of the most iconic artists that have ever walked this earth. What goes into the making of that man?” Domingo said, adding that Joe “chastised his children. It’s always going to be arguable what’s right and a great method.”

Michael’s estate was involved in the making of the biopic and Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will make his feature film debut as the King of Pop. Domingo and Jaafar are joined in the cast by Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, Derek Luke and Nia Long, who plays Michael’s mother, Katherine.

Michael hits theaters and Imax on April 24 after its release was postponed multiple times.
