Actor Crispin Glover has been hit with a civil lawsuit from a British woman claiming he coerced her to move to Los Angeles, forced her into becoming his live-in girlfriend and “sex slave,” before rendering her homeless after the two had a physical altercation nearly two years ago.
Glover, best known for his breakout role as father George McFly in the beloved 1985 blockbuster Back to the Future, is being accused by a woman identified only as “Jane Doe” in the civil suit filed in California Superior Court. He is accused of battery and assault; fraud and wrongful eviction; malicious prosecution and intentional infliction of emotional distress; and a violation of California’s civil rights statute, the Bane Act.
The charges stem “from a disturbing series of incidents in which Jane Doe was essentially held captive and used for sex and free labor by Mr. Glover under false pretenses,” according to the legal filing.
The suit alleges that Glover, who has been single for most of his life, and Doe, a former model, entered a relationship after meeting online in 2015. Glover, she states in the lawsuit, asked her to move to Los Angeles from the U.K. for years, with the promise of a place to live and work in the entertainment industry as his assistant.
They initially met face-to-face in Dresden, Germany, in 2023. Doe alleges in the filing that there, he showed her pieces of his personal Nazi memorabilia collection. According to the filing, Glover then “groomed Jane Doe with promises of a new life in Hollywood through some sort of business relationship with him.”
Doe moved to L.A. early in 2024. At that point, their relationship quickly changed from the anticipated plan, the lawsuit claims, with Glover’s behavior drastically shifting, and “she found herself in a disturbing situation where Mr. Glover wanted to control her actions and track her whereabouts and basically serve him as a live-in girlfriend/sex slave,” the lawsuit states.
As the alleged demands from Glover became more bizarre, according to the suit, Doe began to refuse to participate. The situation came to a head in March 2024, when Glover allegedly grabbed her by the neck, leaving a visible wound. Glover then changed the locks on his home, she said, leaving Doe homeless.
Doe, who filed the civil suit in California Superior Court, is seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages for the alleged harms she suffered.
Glover has vehemently refuted the allegations through his representatives, who state that it was he who suffered an assault at Doe’s hands at his home in the altercation nearly two years ago. He filed a restraining order against Doe at the time in 2024, which is the source of the malicious prosecution element of her civil case.
“Mr. Glover denies these baseless allegations in the strongest possible terms. The reality is that on March 2, 2024, Mr. Glover was the victim of an unprovoked felony assault by Jane Doe at his Los Angeles residence. Mr. Glover called LAPD, which came to the scene, investigated, and arrested Jane Doe,” a representative said in a statement sent to various media outlets.
“These facts are documented by law enforcement records and by the restraining order filed by Mr. Glover against Jane Doe at that time. Mr. Glover intends to vigorously defend himself and will pursue all available relief. He is confident the judicial process will expose this lawsuit as a meritless fabrication.”
Glover has sustained an eclectic career in Hollywood and independent film over the past few decades since his breakout as Marty McFly’s klutzy father. On screen, he has mostly portrayed eccentric and strange men, from a disturbed cousin in Wild at Heart to Andy Warhol in The Doors and the silent, sinister villain in Charlie’s Angels (2000). He has directed multiple films, including What Is It?; It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine.; and last year’s No! YOU’RE WRONG. or: Spooky Action at a Distance.
