Diane Keaton Honored by Rachel McAdams at 2026 Oscars


Rachel McAdams shared a beautiful tribute in honor of Diane Keaton at the 2026 Oscars.

The year’s In Memoriam segment honored a plethora of fallen Hollywood stars, including Keaton, Rob Reiner, Robert Redford, Catherine O’Hara, Robert Duvall and Diane Ladd, among others.

The Send Help actress took hit Dolby Theatre stage on Sunday night where she reflected on her relationship with the Annie Hall star, whom she starred alongside in 2005’s The Family Stone. She started by noting, “This past year, we lost so many artists, including actresses whose talent and originality widened the world for all of us.”

“Women like Claudia Cardinale, whose six-decade career helped bring European cinema to America. Three-time Oscar nominee Diane Ladd, who brought fierce humanity and wit to every role,” she said. “nd my fellow Canadian, Catherine O’Hara. She made us laugh until we cried. And the icon, Diane Keaton.”

“For over 50 years, luminous on screen and indelible in life, believe me when I say there isn’t an actress of my generation who is not inspired by and enthralled with her absolute singularity,” McAdams continued of Keaton. “She wore so many hats, literally and figuratively. Actress, artist, author, activist, but no hat more important to her than being mother to her two children. She meant so much to so many of us.”

The Oscar award-winning actress died Oct. 11, 2025, from pneumonia.

McAdams continued, before tearing up near the conclusion of her tribute, “I remember she used to sing this old Girl Scout song on set, which is just so her. ‘Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold. A circle is round, it has no end, that’s how long I’ll be your friend.’ And so, to our friend Diane Keaton, celebrating a life in silver and gold, a legend to no end.”

The 2026 Oscars featured a plethora of tributes to fallen stars. Prominently, When Harry Met Sally star’s Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan presented a tribute in honor of Rob Reiner, and Barbra Streisand honored Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford.

The 98th Oscars were held Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, where Conan O’Brien returned for his second time as host.
