Erin Doherty has joined Nancy Meyers’ upcoming comedy at Warner Bros., The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The Crown alum, coming off an Emmy-winning performance in Netflix’s Adolescence, is understood to be filling the role previously held by Emma Mackey before a scheduling conflict. Brit actor Doherty also worked on the Disney+ boxing drama A Thousand Blows, written by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight.
Storyline details on the Meyers untitled comedy are not available, but Warner Bros. has given the project a Dec. 25, 2027 release date. Meyers’ earlier A-list-starring comedies include Private Benjamin and Father of the Bride. Her last movie was 2015’s The Intern, which starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.
Meyers has been on a journey with her comedy project since it was first set up at Netflix, before the streamer shut it down over budgetary concerns. Meyers is said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the studio did not want to go above $130 million.
At the time, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender and Scarlett Johansson were circling roles in the feature, which was titled Paris Paramount, although it was unknown if that was the actual title, a working title or a code name.
The project also then centered on a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair make several successful films before breaking up, both romantically and professionally. They are forced back together when a new, great project arises, and they find themselves having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars. It was semi-autobiographical.
Doherty is represented by CAA in the U.S., Conway van Gelder Grant in the U.K., Untitled Entertainment and Shelby Weiser at Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Her joining Meyers’ comedy was first reported by Deadline.
