Jodie Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins took home Best Actor Oscars for “The Silence of the Lambs.”
The 1991 shocker swept that year’s awards ceremony, including wins for Best Picture, Best Director (Jonathan Demme) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
And deservedly so. Hopkins’ chilling portrayal of Hannibal Lecter is one of the scariest movie monsters in film history.
Yet the Hollywood veterans haven’t said a peep about high-profile apologies tied to the film. One could say their silence is deafening.
Earlier this month, actor Ted Levine apologized for playing serial killer Buffalo Bill in the film.
Levine argued the role was insensitively portrayed, suggesting it caricatured the trans movement. Never mind that the character wasn’t trans, or that the actor took more than 30 years to utter his apology.
He wasn’t alone.
“Lambs” producer Edward Saxon also apologized for Buffalo Bill, the film’s human skin-wearing ghoul.
“From my point of view, we weren’t sensitive enough to the legacy of a lot of stereotypes and their ability to harm.”
Naturally, late-night comedians didn’t defend the film classic. They were too busy pushing Democratic party talking points and misleading viewers about candidate interviews.
Not Greg Gutfeld.
Late-night TV’s reigning king skewered the unnecessary apologies tied to “Lambs. And he connected some critical dots in the process.
“So I guess Christian Bale owes an apology for making investment bankers look bad in ‘American Psycho?’” Gutfeld asked. “Robert Englund for making janitors look bad in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street?’”
“Remember, Ted Levine is just an actor. He didn’t write ‘Silence of the Lambs.’ He just spit out the words. So who the hell is he to disown it? It’s like a woke undergrad apologizing for singing ‘Brown Sugar’ at Karaoke. When they meant to say, ‘Sugar of Color,’” Gutfeld cracked.
“Why not return all the money you made from that career boost?” the late-night host asked Levine. “Or the fame and the appearance fees for showing up at Comic-Cons?”
“Give back the sex with all the women not hot enough to get Anthony Hopkins,” he added. “Fat chance. He’s like Billie Eilish talking about ‘stolen land.’ Neither is gonna give up their house.”
The Fox News superstar noted other belated apologies, including Jack Back backpedaling for the “fat shaming” comedy “Shallow Hal” and Hank Azaria disowning his Apu character on “The Simpsons.”
“They’re all generational cowards throwing the past under the bus to appease today’s no-talent whiners,” Gutfeld said before turning briefly serious.
“If you truly believe current standards rule, then how long before those are outdated, too?” he asked.
