After a four-year hiatus, “Euphoria” is back.
The show — which helped launch several Gen-Z stars, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney, onto the A-List — returns for its third and final season tonight, April 12.
Season 3 picks up with a five-year time jump, aging the characters up and out of high school. While HBO’s official logline keeps things vague, stating, “a group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil,” various teasers have shown viewers what characters are up to after the time jump.
Rue (Zendaya) continues her sobriety journey, while Cassie (Sweeney) and Nate (Elordi) settle into suburban life. Jules (Hunter Schaefer) is attending art school and Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Lexi (Maude Apatow) are both working in Hollywood.
In her review of the new season, Page Six TV reporter Lauren Sarner calls the long-awaited return “an off-the-rails roller coaster of insanity,” noting that “if you want narrative coherence and character consistency, Season 3 leaves you wanting.”
