EXCLUSIVE: Lana Parrilla (The Rainmaker) is set to lead Dismantle the Sun, a dystopian indie thriller from Small Batch Films and Cold Iron Pictures that will also star Con O’Neill (Our Flag Means Death), K.C. Clyde (Landman), and Jesse Garcia (Flamin’ Hot).
Currently in production in Los Angeles, the film is set in a near future ravaged by micro-plastic mutations that have decimated the global population of children, following a hardened private investigator navigating a brutal black-market economy. When her employer kidnaps a young girl for her healthy organs, the P.I. goes rogue, confronting the dark choices she once made to save her own daughter while seeking redemption in a desperate race against time.
Nicholas Batchelder is directing from his own script, in his feature debut. Producers include Sarah Phillips, Tennessee Martin, Batchelder, and Sanaz Tamjidi. Small Batch Films and Radical Kindness Productions are financing, with Small Batch Films producing in association with Cold Iron Pictures.
Executive producers include Parrilla, Miranda Bailey, Scott LaMascus, Julia Stier, Natalie Whalen, Batchelder, Phillips, Martin and Tamjidi.
“This project came together around a remarkable group of collaborators,” Cold Iron Pictures’ founder and CEO Bailey told us. “Dismantle The Sun is driven by a fearless script, a visionary first-time director, and a cast led by Lana Parrilla at the top of her game. Cold Iron is thrilled to partner with a team redefining what independent filmmaking can be.”
A Once Upon a Time alum currently starring in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer and USA’s The Rainmaker, Parrilla is represented by Untitled Entertainment and IAG.
O’Neill is represented by Paradigm, The Artists Partnership, Untitled Entertainment and Brecheen Feldman Breimer; Clyde by Joseph Le Agency and Cinterra Entertainment; Garcia by IAG and Mosaic; and Cold Iron Pictures by Range Media Partners.
