Pamela Anderson’s New Campaign for Aerie Bans AI Models

Pamela Anderson, who banned makeup from her personal life, is now taking a stand against AI models.

The veteran celebrity, who earned raves for her performance in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, has teamed with American Eagle’s Aerie to star in a new campaign that doubles down on the lifestyle brand’s pledge to “always keep it 100 percent real: no AI-generated bodies, no AI-generated people. Ever.” It’s an extension of Aerie’s mission that launched last October.

The campaign clip opens with Anderson’s voice as she delivers prompts to generate a female model, one that is “happier, more joyful” but “natural.” Increasingly, Anderson becomes displeased with the artificial results that appear. “Make them feel real,” she says, until the robotic models come to life and join her on the Aerie set. Because of how she’s taken a stand in her own life as it pertains to her image and how she presents herself, Aerie called Anderson “a natural partner for Aerie’s declaration that real matters,” adding, “this next chapter reinforces Aerie’s commitment to transparency with its community.”

In an interview with People to promote the campaign, Anderson said nothing can replace human beings. “Unless AI wants to start becoming imperfect like human beings, it’ll never have the romance of a performance that’s soulful and fearless. There’s just no way to mimic that because we’re all so different,” she said.

The launch of Aerie’s new AI-free campaign comes hot on the heels of Gucci releasing a slew of AI-generated ads to promote its show during Milan Fashion Week. The images received widespread backlash online.
