Pantages Hosting Musicals ‘The Outsiders,’ ‘Maybe Happy Ending’

The Outsiders and Maybe Happy Ending, the past two recipients of the Tony Award for best musical, are coming to the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, the Nederlander Organization announced Thursday.

The 2026-27 Broadway in Hollywood schedule also features four other recent best musical Tony nominees — Water for Elephants, Buena Vista Social Club, Operation Mincemeat and Death Becomes Her — new productions of the classics The Great Gatsby and The Who’s Tommy and a return of the heralded blockbusters The Lion King and Hamilton.

“Live theater creates a connection you simply can’t replicate — the shared anticipation, the collective laughter and the moments that leave an entire room breathless,” Broadway in Hollywood president Jeff Loeb said in a statement. “Our 2026-27 season brings together extraordinary surprises and bold storytelling from seven Los Angeles premieres and iconic favorites that audiences have been waiting for.”

The season kicks off with the Sept. 8-27 run of the circus-set Water for Elephants, adapted from Sara Gruen’s novel.

That’s followed by 2024 Tony best musical winner The Outsiders (Sept. 30-Oct. 18), based on S.E. Hinton’s coming-of-age novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film; Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff’s rock opera Tommy (Oct. 27-Nov. 15); Buena Vista Social Club (March 9-28, 2027), inspired by the 1997 Grammy-winning album of Cuban music; the Olivier Award-winning, World War II-set comedy Operation Mincemeat (March 30-April 18, 2027); the love story Maybe Happy Ending (May 4-23, 2017), winner of the best musical Tony this year; a new adaptation of The Great Gatsby (June 1-20, 2027); and Death Becomes Her (July 6-25, 2027), based on the 1992 Robert Zemeckis film.

Also in the mix are the returns of The Lion King (Dec. 17-Feb. 13, 2027) and Hamilton (July 28-Aug. 29, 2027).

Season ticket packages are available now.
