Stellan Skarsgård has lined up his first project since earning plaudits and an Oscar nomination for Sentimental Value this past awards season.
The actor is set to star alongside Dakota Fanning in Apple TV’s untitled original thriller series hailing from Alex Cary, who previously created the mini-series A Spy Among Friends and earned his thriller cred as a writer-producer on Homeland.
Per Apple, Fanning toplines as an undercover Treasury agent in a multi-billion dollar international conglomerate, with world-changing political and criminal tentacles, who becomes conflicted between her mission and a belief that her principal target, the heir apparent to all that corrupt power, is at his core a good man and worthy of her love.
Skarsgård joins the cast as the head of the international conglomerate.
Kari Skogland (The Falcon and Winter Solider, The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct and serve as executive producer.
Cary, who is acting as creator and showrunner under his overall deal with Sony Pictures Television and his FLW Productions banner, is also executive producing. Other exec producers include Fanning, Julie Gardner (Lady in the Lake, Doctor Who) for Bad Wolf America, and Brittany Kahan Ward of Lewellen Pictures (Margo’s Got Money Troubles).
Sony Pictures Television is behind the series.
The casting keeps Skarsgård in the Fanning family, in a winking way. In Sentimental Value, the Swedish actor plays an aging director who, while attempting to reunite with his estranged daughters, hires an American movie star to make a Netflix movie. The American movie star is played by Elle Fanning, who is Dakota Fanning’s sister.
The Norwegian drama, which took home the Grand Prix at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, won Skarsgård the Golden Globe for best supporting actor and earned him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor.
Skarsgård, who also last year starred in the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, is repped by CAA and Curtis Brown Group.
