James Gunn is getting close to finding his Maxima for Man of Tomorrow.
Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler and Grace Van Patten are the four finalists for the role, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The actors tested this week in Atlanta, where Gunn is in prep for his Superman sequel.
DC Studios declined to comment.
Earlier in the day, Gunn took to social media to rebut an item from Deadline floating names that had allegedly tested for the role.
Writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez introduced Maxima in the pages of Action Comics No. 645 in 1989. She is an alien queen who has been both an antagonist and potential love interest for Superman.
David Corenswet is back as Superman for Man of Tomorrow, the feature that will team the superhero with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to take on the shared threat of Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). Lanterns star Aaron Pierre will appear in the movie, as will Superman castmembers Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Guy Gardner (Nathon Fillion) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific).
Gunn wrote Man of Tomorrow, which has a release date of July 9, 2027 and comes on the heels of Superman, which grossed $618.7 million globally last year and was the inaugural film of Gunn and partner Peter Safran’s DC Studios. It is gearing up to release Supergirl in June, with Corenswet playing a small role.
Arjona is known for her work in the critically acclaimed Star Wars series Andor and the Glen Powell starrer Hit Man. She also had a role in the Gunn produced The Belko Experiment. She is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Goodman Genow.
De Dominici was among the cast of the Fox drama series The Cleaning Lady, and has a role in Amazon MGM Studio’s Peter Farrelly comedy Balls Up, out this month. She is repped by Gersh, Twelve Entertainment, Untitled Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
Chandler broke out as the lead of FX’s Alien: Earth, which has a second season on the way. She is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen.
Grace Van Patten starred as Amanda Knox in Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox and led the streamer’s Tell Me Lies. She is repped by WME, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane Offer.
