THR and Bvlgari Celebrate Oscar-Nominated Costume Designers

The San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles were buzzing with legendary artisans on Wednesday as The Hollywood Reporter and Bvlgari celebrated this year’s Academy Award-nominated costume designers: Ruth E. Carter (Sinners), Malgosia Turzanska (Hamnet), Kate Hawley (Frankenstein), Deborah L. Scott (Avatar: Fire and Ash) and Miyako Bellizzi (Marty Supreme).

The luncheon began with welcome remarks from THR editor-in-Chief Maer Roshan, followed by Brett Fahlgren, vp brand marketing and communications for the luxury jeweler. “For Bvlgari, it’s really an honor to support the Costume Designers Guild and this year’s nominees,” said Fahlgren, acknowledging Carter, Scott, Turzanska and Hawley, who were in attendance. “You bring light to the world, and your creativity makes sure that films are not only seen but heard and remembered and felt.”

Fahlgren went on to thank “two icons” in particular for their attendance at the luncheon: fashion and costume designer Jacqueline West, who’s been nominated for five Oscars for her work on Quills, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Revenant, Dune and Killers of the Flower Moon, and 12-time Academy Award nominee Colleen Atwood, who won four Oscars for the costume designs in Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice in Wonderland and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Fahlgren then presented Atwood, who received the Costume Designers Guild Career Achievement Award in 2006, with a new award in recognition of the honor, noting, “When we heard that Colleen’s Bvlgari award for the CDGs had been damaged and ruined during the wildfires, we had our artisans in Rome create and re-mint a new statuette.”

Other notable attendees at the luncheon included Academy Museum of Motion Pictures president Amy Moma and Board of Trustees secretary Patricia S. Bellinger; and Costume Designers Guild president Terry Gordon, executive director Brigitta Romanov, communications director Anna Wyckoff and producing executive Kristin Ingram. THR photographer Mark Griffin Champion captured portraits of guests as they arrived, with attendees mixing and mingling over signature cocktails before sitting for their formal dining experience.

The luncheon is an extension of Bvlgari’s global partnership with the Costume Designers Guild and the brand’s commitment to celebrating the craft of costume design and its contribution to cinematic storytelling. Earlier this year, Bvlgari introduced a new edition of the Costume Designers Guild Awards statuette during the 28th annual ceremony in February and held a series of exclusive awards season dinners bringing together Oscar and Emmy nominees to connect over film, television, fashion, art and creativity.

The Oscar race for best costume design will be decided during the 2026 Academy Awards on Sunday. Bellizzi, Turzanska and Hawley are all first-time nominees, while Scott is a two-time nominee, receiving her first nom and win in 1998 for Titanic. With her fifth costume design nomination for Sinners, Carter is now the most-nominated Black woman in Oscar history. Her previous nods include Malcolm X and Amistad, with two additional noms and wins for Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The 98th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, with Conan O’Brien hosting.
