Yahya Abdul-Matten II as Creasy in Netflix Adaptation

Yahya Abdul-Matten II as John Creasy, a broken former special forces mercenary, lets his guns do the talking in the trailer for Netflix’s thriller Man on Fire, which dropped on Tuesday ahead of an April 30 debut.

Creasy, faced with PTSD after three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, finds himself under intense fire in Rio Janiero to escape his personal demons and find personal redemption. His mission is to avenge the death of his only friend, while protecting his fallen comrade’s daughter from the forces that destroyed her family.

“Let me be very clear. You’re not gonna survive this,” are Creasy’s only words in the short teaser (below) for the TV adaptation based on novels by A.J. Quinnell, which previously served as source material for a 2004 feature film starring Denzel Washington and a 1987 Italian film with Scott Glenn. The 2004 film grossed $130 million worldwide, more than doubling its $60 million budget.

Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy and Paul Ben-Victor are also part of the Netflix series cast. Man on Fire was first published in 1980, with four additional novels — 1992’s The Perfect Kill, 1993’s The Blue Ring, 1994’s Black Horn and 1996’s Message From Hell — all featuring the Creasy character. The Netflix series, to launch April 30, is based on Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill.

Kyle Killen wrote, showrun and executive produces the Netflix series adaptation from New Regency Productions, which owns rights to the property, Chernin Entertainment and Killen’s Chapter Eleven banner.

The executive producer credits are also shared by Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Scott Pennington, Steven Caple Jr., Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, Abdul-Mateen II and Stacy Perskie.
