Jason Statham is helping to build the buzz for his sequel movie, The Beekeeper 2.
During Amazon MGM Studios‘ CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday, the star appeared in a pre-recorded bit, pouring honey into his tea as he introduced exclusive clips from the new movie.
The footage showed Statham’s character, former government assassin Adam Clay, as he learns that the Beekeepers, an elite clandestine human intelligence organization tasked with protecting the U.S. and operating above governmental jurisdiction, have gone rogue and will kill anyone in their way.
The group has kidnapped the president, as Jeremy Irons‘ character, Wallace Westwyld, a former CIA Director, tells Clay that he’s the only one who “can stop all this madness.” And so Clay jumps into action, wielding plenty of machine guns, a flamethrower and at one point, even harnesses bees as a weapon as he sets out to make things right.
Amazon MGM Studios is set to release director Timo Tjahjanto’s feature in theaters Jan. 14, 2027. David Ayer helmed the 2024 original that surpassed $160 million at the global box office.
Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi and Jemma Redgrave are among the cast members reprising their roles from the first film, while the sequel’s newcomers to the franchise include Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland.
The first Beekeeper film centered on Clay, who was setting out on a revenge mission. In the sequel, Clay is now a wanted man as he continues his vendetta against those who wronged him.
Last year, Ayer spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about feeling grateful for the success of The Beekeeper. “I made that movie on a thesis of really making something for the audience and intentionally making a commercial film,” the director said. “At the same time, I was showcasing my filmmaker’s heart. To have that work, I don’t want to say I was surprised, but it was really reaffirming, for sure.”
CinemaCon is the annual event for exhibitors and Hollywood studios that runs this year from April 13-16. It is the official convention of Cinema United.
