Nicole Kidman and Lena Dunham didn’t walk the 2026 Met Gala carpet together, but the two mostly matched at Monday night’s showing.
Kidman sported Chanel, while Dunham wore Valentino, though the two actresses notably mirrored one another’s looks, both sporting red sequins and feathers on the Met steps.
Both Kidman and Dunham held high roles at the Met Gala 2026; the Oscar winner served as a co-chair, while the Girls creator was part of the host committee. The Practical Magic star was one of the first celebrities to hit the Met steps in tune with her role as co-chair, and while she was dressed similarly to Dunham, she actually walked the carpet with her daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.
The Too Much creator has reentered the pop cultural landscape following the April release of her second memoir, Famesick. In the memoir, Dunham opened up about a number of topics, including her five-year relationship with Jack Antonoff, claims of erratic behavior from her onscreen Girls co-star Adam Driver, the anxiety she faced from acting as head writer and leading star of the show and the online criticism she’s faced in her career.
In Famesick, Dunham also wrote about her experiences attending past Met Galas, and noted that she “stopped being invited” after her last appearance at the event in 2019. She, too, wrote about her hospitalization following the 2017 Met Gala due to complications with endometriosis.
The 2026 Met Gala dress code is “Fashion Is Art.” This year’s exhibition, “Costume Art,” was curated by Andrew Bolton and promised to “explore the relationship between clothing and the body beneath,” per official descriptions.
Alongside Kidman, Met Gala 2026 co-chairs include Vogue’s Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, and Venus Williams; Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were honorary chairs. This year’s host committee additionally included Anthony Vaccarello, Zoë Kravitz, Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Alex Consani, Elizabeth Debicki, Paloma Elsesser, Rebecca Hall, LISA, Chloe Malle, Aimee Mullins, Amy Sherald, Tschabalala Self, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Anna Weyant, Lauren Wasser, A’ja Wilson, Chase Sui Wonders and Yseult.
