Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Sets Its First Star Wars Exhibit

Just in time for May the 4th, the official Star Wars holiday, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has revealed the name and teased details of its first Star Wars installation.

Titled Star Wars in Motion, and part of the inaugural Cinema exhibition, the presentation will focus on the many modes of transportation, from the wide range of high-speed racers to hulking transport vehicles to flying vessels, from the first six films of George Lucas’ sci-fi fantasy saga.

“From Luke’s Landspeeder in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope to the first physical build of General Grievious’ Wheel Bike from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the Lucas Museum’s inaugural Cinema exhibition will dazzle audiences with the possibilities of propulsive motion on distant and exotic worlds,” touted the museum in its announcement.

The Cinema exhibition will be one of more than thirty installations that will open with the museum on Sept. 22. All the inaugural presentations are being curated by Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson and are drawn from the Museum’s founding collection.

Per the museum, the exhibitions will trace the evolution of human culture through visual storytelling, from ancient sculptures of gods and goddesses to Renaissance paintings to photographs, comics, and modern cinema.

The exhibits will showcase topics such as architecture, civic life, and history, story genres such as Westerns and children’s tales; mediums such as comics, manga, anime, and photography; and focuses on artists ranging from Frank Frazetta, Normal Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth, and Jesse Willcox Smith, among numerous other categories.

The presentations will include more than 1,200 objects installed across more than 30 galleries, and occupy approximately 100,000 square feet of gallery space.

Check out a teaser video for the Cinema exhibition below. It doesn’t show anything from the exhibit, but will get your heart ready to hit hyperspace.
