The latest cop series being developed by CBS will star ’90s and early 2000s television royalty: Matt LeBlanc.
The network has ordered a development room for a cop series featuring the former Friends star called Flint, CBS executives revealed at a press conference on Wednesday. If it’s ordered down the line, the show from 24 showrunner Evan Katz will mark LeBlanc’s first return to broadcast since the CBS sitcom Man With a Plan, which ended in 2020 after four seasons.
“The show is about a burnt-out LAPD detective on the verge of retirement, who’s blindsided when the city extends his service by five years,” explained CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach at a press briefing for CBS’ 2026-2027 primetime lineup. “Determined to get fired, he breaks rules and disobeys orders, which to his dismay makes him an even better cop.”
Reisenbach added that the show, which is also being executive produced by LeBlanc, is “a smart, character-driven premise that has a really distinctive tone.” If ordered to series, Flint would be shot in L.A. and at the earliest would arrive for the 2027-2028 season.
CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television are involved in the development process on the series.
LeBlanc’s Man With a Plan, created by Jackie and Jeff Filgo, was also executive produced by LeBlanc. At the time, LeBlanc said he enjoyed working more, albeit with shorter working hours, due to the multicamera sitcom format of the show.
“I have a family and the hours are shorter. I like the work week of a multicam; you rehearse all week and then shoot in front of a live audience,” he said in 2016, the year the show premiered. “It’s like being part of an ensemble theater company.”
After shooting to stardom over the course of 10 seasons on Friends, LeBlanc starred in a short-lived spinoff called Joey on NBC, which ended in 2006.
After taking a yearslong break from the klieg lights of television, he made his return on Showtime’s Episodes as a fictionalized version of himself and later served as a co-host of the BBC car show Top Gear for four seasons.
