Congrats on not killing your mom, Kanan. On Tuesday, Starz released the trailer for the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, revealing the return of Raquel Thomas (Patina Miller) and settling season four’s big cliffhanger.
The prior season of Raising Kanan ended with a gun pointed at Raq’s head. The young man on the other end was her own son, the Power spinoff’s title character, who blames mom for the death of his best friend and girlfriend. Well Kanan (MeKai Curtis), yes, your mom sucks — but you also just lost some serious protection in the game.
Season five follows Kanan and Breeze (Shameik Moore) on the serious come up in the Southside. Fans of the OG Power know Kanan as the kingpin played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. This final season of prequel Raising Kanan, which will lead directly into the next prequel in the Power universe, Power: Origins, sees Kanan’s “true ruthlessness” taking shape, per the Starz synopsis. “He knows exactly who he is and who he must become to defeat his enemies.”
“As his relationship with Raq reaches a point of no return, and any chance of reconciliation becomes a distant memory, war is inevitable,” it continues. “Kanan solidifies his place in the Queens drug game alongside Breeze, the Southside legend, and their alliance sets the stage for a reckoning that will ripple through every player in this dangerous business. Many sacrifices will be made, whether it’s the Thomas family facing the collapse of their reign, Unique fighting to preserve his legacy or the Mafia maneuvering behind the scenes. However, nothing will stand in the way of Kanan’s pursuit of power. After all, this isn’t the end for Kanan Stark. It’s just the beginning.”
Power Book III: Raising Kanan also stars London Brown as Marvin Thomas, Malcolm Mays as Lou Thomas, Joey Bada$$ as Unique, Hailey Kilgore as Laverne “Jukebox” Thomas, Wendell Pierce as Ishmael “Snaps” Henry, Erika Woods as Stephanie “Pop” Henry, Tony Danza as Stefano Marchetti, Joe Pantolliano as Pino Bernardi and Leslie Grossman as Florence “Flossie” Sigel.
Raising Kanan is created and showrun by Sascha Penn. The Power Universe is executive produced by Power creator Courtney A. Kemp through her production company End of Episode, by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television and Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment. Chris Selak also serves as an executive producer; Lionsgate Television produces for Starz.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan season five premieres on June 12; new episodes roll out weekly on Fridays. Watch the trailer below.
