Prime Video is, unsurprisingly, sticking with one of its biggest shows.
The Amazon-owned streamer has ordered a fifth season of Reacher. The pickup comes ahead of the show’s fourth season, which is slated to premiere later this year. Prime Video announced the renewal a few hours before its upfront presentation Monday evening.
Alan Ritchson will reprise his role as Jack Reacher in season five, but Prime Video is otherwise holding off on sharing details about the next season, including which of Lee Child’s Reacher novels will be the source material. Nick Santora remains as showrunner.
“From Lee Child’s globally beloved novels to its standout on-screen adaptation, Reacher has evolved into a true powerhouse franchise,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “The series’ ability to combine high-octane action with compelling character storytelling continues to resonate with tens of millions of viewers around the world. We’re excited to move forward with a fifth season ahead of season four’s debut and to build on this incredible momentum. Season four of Reacher is based on Gone Tomorrow, the 13th book in Child’s series about the freelance problem-solver. The logline reads, “When a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a subway goes horribly wrong, Jack Reacher is drawn into a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.” The season four cast includes Chris Marquette, Sydelle Noel, Agnez Mo, Anggun, Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan and Kathleen Roberston.
Paramount TV Studios and Amazon MGM Studios produce Reacher. Santora executive produces with Child, Ritchson, Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, Lisa Kussner, Sam Hill, Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen.
