‘Scrubs,’ ‘Shifting Gears’ Renewed by ABC for 2026-27 Season

ABC has locked in two more series for its 2026-27 schedule.

The network has renewed its comedies Scrubs and Shifting Gears (both produced by 20th Television) for next season. Both shows performed solidly for the network on Wednesdays this season, with Shifting Gears airing in the first half of the season and the Scrubs revival in the spring.

The multi-camera Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, will air its third season in 2026-27. It was ABC’s most watched comedy in linear ratings this season, averaging 5.4 million viewers with seven days of DVR playback. With streaming included, the show grew to about 7 million viewers per episode after a week.

The Scrubs revival will get a second season at the network. It premiered to 9 million cross-platform viewers over its first seven days and grew to 11 million in Nielsen’s 35-day, all-platform ratings. In linear ratings only, it was also ABC’s No. 1 comedy among adults 18-49 this season.

With these two pickups, ABC has renewed all but one of its current scripted shows for next season — only first-year drama R.J. Decker remains in limbo. The network previously ordered new seasons of 911, 911: Nashville, Abbott Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, High Potential, The Rookie and Will Trent.

Allen executive produces Shifting Gears with Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Dennings is a producer.

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence executive produces the revival with showrunner Aseem Batra; Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer of Lawrence’s Doozer Productions; lead actors Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke; and Randall Keenan Winston.
