‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ stomps to No. 1 on first day in theaters

It stomped its way to the top.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” landed in the No. 1 spot on its first day in theaters Friday, raking in $32.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

The Post praised the sequel to the 2006 film -—based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, former assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — as “likable and thankfully not the garish embarrassment that it could have so easily become.”

Meryl Streep, who plays icy magazine editor Miranda Priestly, based on Wintour, revealed that she asked for double the salary she was originally offered to reprise the role — and her wish was granted.

“I knew it was going to be a hit, and I wanted to see if I doubled my ask,” she told host Jenna Bush Hager on Wednesday’s “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.”

“And they went right away and said sure. And I thought, I’m 50, 60 — it took me this long to understand that I could do that.”

The biopic “Michael,” based on the life of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson — which The Post called “a cheap and embarrassing bore” — dropped one spot to second, with sales of $14.4 million.

The film surpassed the $300 million mark in global sales yesterday to become the second-highest earning biopic in history after “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which chronicled the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” moved down a notch to third, earning $2.72 million on its fifth Friday in theaters.

The animated adventure sequel, based on the hit Nintendo game franchise, is currently the highest-grossing movie of the year, with a worldwide haul of over $1.8 billion.

The supernatural horror flick “Hokum,” starring Adam Scott, took fourth, with a $2.6 million take on its first day at the box office.

In fifth was “Project Hail Mary,” which took home just over $2.2 million on its seventh Friday in theaters.
