Tribeca Festival to Honor Bruce Springsteen With Harry Belafonte Award

The Tribeca Festival will honor Bruce Springsteen with its 2026 Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award in an event that will include a conversation with longtime friend Bono and tributes from Robert De Niro and Patti Smith.

The Belafonte Award, established by late Tribeca chief content officer Paula Weinstein, is given to artists who use their platform to advance equality, dignity and human rights.

“There are few figures who embody the spirit of Tribeca’s Harry Belafonte Award more fully than Bruce Springsteen,” said Tribeca Festival co-founder and co-chair Jane Rosenthal.

In addition to the Springsteen honor, Tribeca on Tuesday announced world premieres of Katy Perry concert film The Lifetimes Tour — Live in Paris, followed by a conversation with Perry, and Tony Kaye’s Humpty Dumpty X, exploring the director’s creative journey in the wake of directing 1998’s American History X.

Additional highlights from the talks, reunions and retrospectives lineup announced Tuesday include a 25th anniversary screening of Bridget Jones’s Diary, followed by a conversation with director Sharon Maguire and star Renée Zellweger; a 30th anniversary screening of Bound, followed by a conversation with director Lilly Wachowski and stars Gina Gershon and Joe Pantoliano; a 50th anniversary screening of Taxi Driver, followed by a conversation between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese; and 20th anniversary screenings of Daft Punk’s Electroma and Small Town Gay Bar.

Additionally, the Festival will host talks between Sean Penn and Kaitlan Collins, after last year’s planned conversation was canceled, and one with Este Haim.

The Festival also recently announced its NOW (New Online Work) slate, after becoming the first major film festival to open submissions to social media creators. This year’s selections include And They Were Roommates, a New York rom-com series; Shanked, a country club workplace comedy; BK Coffee Shop, a Gen Z satire; VHS Dates, a found-footage comedy about dating in the ‘80s; Sideline Archive, exploring forgotten stories through sports memorabilia; That’s That on That, portraits of uncredited architects of Black history; Retache, bilingual stories and resources for people returning to Mexico from the U.S.; 15 Second Film; Mechanical Pencil, coming-of-age stories rooted in ‘90s Black cinema; and Taylor Cassidy.

The 2026 Tribeca Festival is set to run from June 3-14 in New York. More information about this year’s festival is available here.
