Michael B. Jordan and Adria Arjona Flirt

Michael B. Jordan‘s new take on The Thomas Crown Affair kicked off Amazon MGM StudiosCinemaCon presentation on a high note.

To announce that Jon Batiste will score the film, the Grammy-winning musician took the stage in Las Vegas to perform a piano version of The Windmills of Your Mind, the Academy Award-winning song from the 1968 film of the same name.

The trailer kicked off with Jordan and co-star Adria Arjona engaging in flirty banter and teasing Jordan’s character as a notorious art thief. “Tell me something: Does this billionaire thing really work?” she asks him. Arjona later offers her assessment of his character: “I think you’re fractured, definitely have commitment issues. No serious relationships.”

Later, he asks her, “Are you hustling me, Ms. Bennett?” Jordan then tells Kenneth Branagh‘s character, “You think it’s yours because you bought it, but it’s not.”

After screening the footage, Jordan explained why the project was important to him. “I’ve been daydreaming of making this movie for years,” he said. “I saw the ’99 Thomas Crown Affair when I was around 9 years old. It was a guy that was smart, sophisticated and always three steps ahead.” The Oscar-winning Sinners star added that he also loved later seeing the first Steve McQueen version: “McQueen brought this effortless cool, this rebellious edge. He didn’t just steal. He made a statement.”

Arjona then joined him on stage, with Jordan praising her as an “incredible scene partner.”

Jordan directs and stars in the feature reimagining that follows Norman Jewison‘s 1968 original starring McQueen and Faye Dunaway. Arjona, Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk and Aiysha Hart round out the cast for the new project that hits theaters March 5, 2027. Taylor Russell was previously set to star opposite Jordan in the film before exiting the movie amid creative differences, leading Arjona to join the cast.

The original Thomas Crown Affair landed two Oscar nominations and tells the story of an insurance investigator working to track down the perpetrator of a bank heist. It was remade in 1999, with the updated version starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy) wrote the script for the new movie after Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson penned a previous draft. Producers include Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society and Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment. Patrick McCormick and Toberoff Productions’ Marc Toberoff also produce. Alan Trustman, who wrote the original film, serves as an executive producer.

Earlier this year, Jordan teased his take on The Thomas Crown Affair in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a big movie,” the star said at the time. “It’s international. It’s sexy. It’s a lot of fun. A lot of twists and turns. It’s going to have some things that I think audiences won’t be expecting that might be a nice treat for them.”

CinemaCon is the annual event for exhibitors and Hollywood studios that runs this year from April 13-16. It is the official convention of Cinema United.
